This is one of Mortarakos’ most recent works, focusing on the Windows theme. For the artist, Windows encapsulate the questioning between the closed and the open space, or rather, the sensation of “in” and “out”. Other than the issue of space, Mortarakos also refers to other important concepts, communication, freedom, “opening” by and large to the world. Space is an essential quest in his painting which thus acquires a dimension both personal and philosophical related to memory, loss and presence.
