Alkis Pierrakos

Greek, 1920

He was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied painting at the Gewerbeschule, Basel, at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London. He spent a long time in Frankfurt before settling permanently in Paris in 1945, where he became member of the group "La Ligne et le Signe". Nowadays, he lives and works in Paris and he often visits Oxylithos, Greece, where he spends a lot of time painting.

Pierrakos’ work is cosmopolitan. His connection with important artists like Oscar Kokoshka and Francis Bacon played an integral role in the evolution of his work, while he has never hesitated to blend creatively Expressionism with Fauvism and Symbolism with Abstraction, ending up in personal, recognizable and unique paintings.
