Floral Meteorites From Armenia
Floral Meteorites from Armenia
Sarko Meené
22 OCTOBER – 05 DECEMBER 2026
Sarko Meené’s flowers bloom at Kourd Gallery. From October 22, the exhibition Floral Meteorites from Armenia, curated by Eleni Varopoulou, invites us to discover the artistic world of the Armenian artist. The first presentation of Meené’s work in Greece constitutes the first part of an artistic diptych, through which Kourd Gallery turns its gaze towards Armenian art, opening a new cycle in its exhibition programme.
The exhibition Floral Meteorites from Armenia includes paintings featuring floral motifs, which Meené has created using oil pastel and dry pastel on raw canvas. The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Greece. The presentation of Sarko Meené will coincide with a series of events dedicated to Armenia, which will take place in Athens during the winter, such as the exhibition “Ancient Armenia”, which will be presented by the Acropolis Museum from November 20, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
The exhibition’s curator, Eleni Varopoulou, notes:
This artist of Armenian descent, who currently lives in Yerevan and has spent a long period of time in New York, works on canvas with her encrypted code for nature, female identity, and the cycle of life and flowering. For this particular rough surface and for the expression of lived experiences, however, she has chosen oil pastel and chalk as her medium.
With spontaneity, she expresses the innermost urge to seismograph moods and emotions, to bring to life the memory of wild carrot blossoms. To recall the night-blooming flowers that blossomed as night fell in the garden. But Sarko Meené’s flowers, as they vary across the surface of the canvas and are repeated through the methods of serial and conceptual art, or through abstract logic whenever it is called upon to handle concepts, produce clear systems and structures. The flowering formations that the painter ultimately proposes evoke snowflakes and crystals. They evoke clusters and circular shapes that invoke the primordial forces of nature as well as mental processes.
